Get Involved
There are many ways of getting involved with the Lydon Lab, including volunteer and paid opportunities.
Volunteer

Thank you for your interest in helping out in the Lydon Lab. Volunteering is a great way to get research experience. To volunteer in the lab, please complete the Interest Form as soon as possible and email it to the lab coordinator at lydonlab.volunteers@gmail.com. Once we've received your application, we will add your name to our list of volunteers and you will be contacted, usually by e-mail, whenever we need help with something. When you receive an e-mail from the lab, if you are interested and are able to help with the outlined task, you simply respond directly to that e-mail. We look forward to meeting you!

Research Assistant

Thank you for your interest in a position as a Research Assistant (RA) in the Lydon Lab. The Lydon Lab hires RAs through the Work Study program on campus, usually in the early fall each school year. We rely on RAs to help to make research run smoothly in the lab. Tasks include recruiting and scheduling participants, entering and proofing data, keeping the lab organized and in tip-top shape (e.g., filing, labeling, moving boxes and performing computer maintenance), and helping the grad students and lab coordinator as needed (e.g., performing literature searches or running errands). Sometimes RAs will also run studies, though usually undergraduate thesis and graduate students run their own studies. A background in psychology is strongly preferred; some research experience and bilingualism are assets.

If you would like to apply to work as an RA in our lab, please e-mail a cover letter, CV, and unofficial transcript (as PDF or DOC format) to the lab coordinator at lydonlab.coordinator@gmail.com. Please include your student ID number in your email for the purpose of verification of your Work Study status.

Undergraduate Research Project

Thank you for your interest in completing an undergraduate thesis in the Lydon Lab. Each year the Lydon Lab invites students enrolled in an undergraduate thesis course at McGill to apply to the lab. Applications are collected from the beginning of March until the end of July and interviews are typically conducted the first few days of the Fall term or the week prior to classes starting. A returning honours student (U3) might be contacted before then. If a candidate is selected, she or he will likely work jointly with a graduate student and Dr. Lydon. Occasionally, a student works solely with Dr Lydon with some technical assistance from the lab coordinator.

Students who are interested in doing an undergraduate thesis in the Lydon Lab should email the lab coordinator at lydonlab.coordinator@gmail.com with the completed application form found here: Research Project Form.

Participate

If you think you might like to participate in our studies and be compensated for your time, you can enter our lab participant pool. To sign up, simply go to this website and complete this short recruitment survey.

Only researchers at the Lydon Lab will then have access to your information and will contact you to let you know about studies in which you can participate. If you decide to participate, compensation averages $13/hr, depending on the study. All studies are approved by the McGill Ethics Committee. Note that there is no obligation to participate in a study once you are in the pool, and you are free to withdraw from the pool at any time.

Principal Investigator: Dr. John Lydon

Summer Research Fellowships

The Lydon Lab accepts applications for Summer Research Fellowships (e.g. ARIA, SURA, PURA) during the first months of the Winter term (January-March). Interested students are encouraged to email the lab coordinator (at lydonlab.coordinator@gmail.com) with a copy of their CV and unofficial transcript.
