I am a first-year PhD student in the Clinical Psychology program. Broadly, I am interested in the ways in which people evaluate their romantic partners and how these evaluations influence their relationship quality. I aim to explore the circumstances under which people become more critical and diagnostic, shifting away from positive, global illusions. I'm particularly interested in understanding when being highly evaluative can be helpful, such as in identifying and overcoming issues, and when it might become counterproductive, potentially leading to unnecessary dissatisfaction or lowered relationship stability.
My research broadly examines various strategies that people may use to resist temptations in the pursuit of long-term goals—mainly in the context of close relationships. For example, what strategies do people in committed romantic relationships use to overcome the temptation to be unfaithful to their partner? Do people who aim to pursue relationships with individuals who meet certain criteria (e.g., having a shared cultural background) use certain strategies to resist the desire to initiate a relationship with someone who does not meet these criteria?
I am broadly interested in what factors motivate people to enter new relationships - especially maladaptive motivators. For example, why do people pursue romantic relationships due to a fear of being single? How do perceptions of time and control influence our decisions to enter new relationships? I am also fascinated by Terror Management Theory and how the fear of death is linked to a fear of being alone.
I am a U2 student majoring in Psychology, with minors in Behavioural Science and Philosophy. I’m very excited to be joining the Lydon Lab team as a research assistant! My areas of research interest include social pain and memory. After graduation, I hope to pursue graduate studies in Clinical Psychology.
I am a fourth-year student pursuing a B.Sc in psychology. I am very excited to be joining the Lydon Lab as the Volunteer Coordinator! My research interests include social psychology, specifically the cognitive aspects involved in interpersonal relationships and clinical psychology. After completing my degree, I hope to pursue graduate studies in clinical psychology.
